Shireen Davis, Librarian, SAAO

Shireen Davis, Librarian, SAAO

Librarian, South African Astronomical Observatory

Q: How long have you worked in your current job?

A: I have been working at the South African Astronomical Observatory since November 2001.

Q: Which fictional character would you most like to be?

A: I have never given this much thought before but maybe I'd like to be one of the Charlie's Angels. I grew up watching the television series, so it has to be Kate Jackson's character, Sabrina Duncan.

Q: What are you most afraid of?

A: Snakes.

Q: Name one place that you would like to go back to?

A: This is a difficult question. I would like to go back to New Zealand and Finland, but if I had to choose one place only, it would have be Santorini in Greece. What an incredible spot.

Q: What is the last film you watched?

A: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Q: How do you like to relax after work?

A: I enjoy doing sudoku while watching sport, travel programmes or murder mysteries on television before curling up with a good book.

Q: Can you highlight three qualities of your institution?

A: The SAAO has a robust research culture, a strong commitment to astronomy outreach and a dynamic work environment shaped by a multi-cultural staff complement.
