Q: What led you into your chosen profession?

A: When I was an undergraduate I found that the logic of physics was suitable for me. This was the beginning of a long road to a Professorship.

Q: What book are you reading right now?

A: I've just finished The Nobel Prize by Burton Feldman. Now I have a better understanding of the subject.

Q: Who do you admire the most (past or present) and why?

A: My greatest admiration is shared by two people: my father and my Doktor Vate, Dr E A Hiedemann. They were on opposite sides in the First World War, but they got along famously when I brought them together. I admire them because my father looked beyond Hiedemann's PhD at the man. Hiedemann also looked at my father as a man.

Q: What was the first and last music record you bought?

A: I don't remember the first; however, the last probably was a set of CDs entitled A Baroque festival. Baroque music has its attraction for me. In addition, my Russian colleagues gave me several CDs containing liturgy when they learned of my interest in that music.

Q: If you could have any career other than your chosen profession, what would you choose?

A: I am satisfied with Physics; however, I would enjoy being able to drive dirt-moving equipment.

Q: If you could have dinner with any three people, past or present, who would they be?

A: Dr Waldemar Noll, Dr Harold Q Fuller, and Dr E A Hiedemann. Dr Noll taught me undergraduate physics; Dr Fuller was major professor for my MS degree; Dr Hiedemann was major professor for my PhD.

Q: Money no option, where would you like to go on vacation?

A: My favorite vacation spot is Hawaii.
